Why should I volunteer? |

People choose to volunteer for a variety of reasons! For some, volunteering offers the chance to give something back to the community or make a difference to the people around them. For others it provides an opportunity to develop new skills or build on existing experience and knowledge. Regardless of the motivation, what unites them all is that they find it both challenging and rewarding. |
What can I do as a volunteer?
There are many types of volunteering opportunities for you to choose from. You could decide to use skills you already have or use volunteering to try something new. Many organisations will even offer you training as a volunteer, so volunteer work is an opportunity to learn new things.
Here are a few examples of volunteering opportunities available currently :

Administration
- Help out on our thriving Reception or in various departments around the premises with a range of office and administration duties to gain new skills or refresh your current ones.

Social Supermarket Day Staff
- Help us to set up, engage with our customers throughout the day providing support where needed or give food demonstartions to our guests on how they can use the produce at home.

Retail Assistant (Job Description)
- Sorting donations of clothes and books, arranging window displays to fit the current seasons/themes and use of the till system to take payments from customers.

Furniture Warehouse ( Crew Member Job Description / Van driver Job Description )
- There’s crew opportunities to help deliver and collect items of furniture, administration and sales. We also require volunteers to drive our vans when collecting or delivering furniture.

Volunteer Driver ( Job Description )
- Taking people to important health related appointments or help out with administration duties in the Community Transport Department or help out as a chaperone on the elderly shopping trips. (Mileage paid!)
How do I start volunteering?
To get started all you need to do is complete a Volunteer Application Form (pdf) / Volunteer Application Form (word) and return it to us by:

Do I need Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks?
This will depend on the volunteer role that you are doing. If you are working with children or vulnerable adults, you can expect to be asked to complete a DBS check.
This will involve you filling in a form giving your name, current and previous addresses and giving proof of who you are and where you live.
