Social Car Scheme - Volunteer Driver Service

This service is suitable for elderly and vulnerable people who cannot use a public bus service, or where none exist (applies to over 60's only)

Upon receiveing a hospital or doctors appointment, MRC will arrange for a volunteer driver to collect you on the date of travel, wait up to 1hour at the location, or collect you at a later time, and deliver you home hassle free and direct to your front door.

This service is chargable at a reduced rate to cover the fuel cost and is considerably less than that of a 'taxi' service. An invoice will be sent at the end of the month after travel date occurs. We pride ourselves on the familiarity of our volunteer team who are passionate about our service users and making their lives a little easier.

This invaluable service relies entirely on volunteer car drivers using their own vehicles.

Become a Volunteer Driver

Do you have time to spare and a desire to help keep our community going? Ever fancied joining MRC as a volunteer driver?

Many of our volunteer drivers enjoy being part of the team and being able to provide such a vital service to real people in the community. We have small local runs and also longer trips for those with a little more time on their hands.

We have three accessible mini-buses which are driven by both paid and no paid workers. We also have several generous volunteer drivers who use their own cars help to keep our community going.

You’ll receive a  full driving asessment

The only cost to you is your time.

You will receive expenses for every mile you travel in your own car & to and from our minibus)

You can volunteer as much or as little time as you  want to.

You can drive on a regular basis or be as flexible as you need to be.

Shopping Trips & Days Out

We are keeping up to date with all new Coronavirus (COVID-19) updates and advice from the Government and Public Health to make sure that our actions accurately follow all current guidance to protect the health and wellbeing of our community. Unfortunately, this means that the Shopping Trips and Days out are currently postponed until further notice.

We are however still carrying out our weekly supermarket busses to Morrisons and Tesco from Coalville and surrounding areas. Our Volunteer drivers take local residents regularly to Morrisons, Tesco and the Co-Op for their essential weekly shop with the assurance that you can be collected and dropped back at your door in a fully accessible minibus.

Our shopping trips are a great opportunity for the over 60's (This service is also suitable for frail elderly people and for those who cannot use a public bus service, or where none exist) to get out and about to shopping centres, places of interest including garden centres and museums.

Our trips are to local supermarkets and retail parks or further afield to places of interest and more often than not include a stop for a bite to eat at a pub or restaurant or garden centre.

(Please note we charge our passengers for transport only, meals and other costs being at the discretion of the passengers)
