Trustees
Interested in being an MRC board member?
We are in the process of re-shaping our business model in light of changes in the public sector and to meet the new challenges of attracting investment in our work.
With this in mind, the Board of Trustees has decided to seek new Board members to join the current team of 6. The current Board have, between them, a wide range of skills and experience and a wealth of local knowledge. However, we have a lot to do over the next 12 months and are aware of some skills gaps that we should like to fill.
If you share our passion and would like to play an active part in making a difference and if you feel you have the skills we are looking for, then we should like to hear from you.

Board of Trustees

Chair: Evan Rees
After graduating with a degree in geology, I quickly found that (aged 22) I didn’t want to make a career of searching for minerals and I did some voluntary work with street homeless people in the Midlands. I became interested in social exclusion and what can be done to combat it. This led to a career with both national and regional Housing Associations where I managed and then developed social housing and social care services. In the late 1980’s I decided to switch direction slightly to develop an interest in economic development at a community level and I developed the Village Companies Project for Leicester Housing Association, working with former mining communities to set up social enterprises. In 2002, I set up Social Enterprise East Midlands, the regional voice for social enterprises and worked with the Regional Development Agency, Government Office and other strategic partners to develop a regional social enterprise strategy. I was member of the Board of the Social Enterprise Coalition where I contributed to the development of national policy in respect of social enterprise. I was also a member of the Investment Committee of Futurebuilders where I developed experience of investing in third sector organisations developing new services with public sector partners. I took up post as Chief Executive of Regeneration East Midlands in January 2008. Moving to REM allowed me to bring together a number of elements of my career to date by linking social and physical regeneration, encouraging best practice in design, skills, intelligence and funding of regeneration in the East Midlands.
I’ve lived in Bagworth for the last 10 years so I’m almost accepted as a local! Apart from the third sector, I’m passionate about good buildings, environmental protection, good beer and good music.

Stephen Wilson Jennings
After thirty-six years living in Leicestershire, working in Sales and Marketing within the construction industry - sixteen years at Executive level - Steve decided to get more involved in the North West Leicestershire District. Following a family tradition of volunteering, Steve contacted MRC and instantly became involved in one of its sub-committees, which made him begin to appreciate the value this organisation adds to the community. Three years on, he has experienced many changes and, as the new Chair of MRC, he is looking forward to playing an active role in assisting with exciting future developments and supporting it’s highly motivated staff and management team.
John Reid
John Reid became involved in volunteering through his wife, Marlene, after whom The Centre is named. He would transport Marlene around the district to various meetings and helped her to organise volunteer drivers. After Marlene passed away he took on some of her jobs and then became more involved, firstly as a Chair of a sub-committee, as a Trustee of NWLCVS and continuing as a MRC Trustee as well as being a Director of Marlene Reid Enterprises Ltd. He is still a volunteer driver.

Anil Majithia
Anil is a senior manager in a global IT firm. He is able to bring his extensive project & programme management skills and apply them to MRC, which although somewhat smaller does have its own complexities. Asked about his view on the volunteer Trustee role, Anil said:
“I am honoured and privileged to serve as a Trustee for MRC Community Action, a volunteer role that allows me ( in a very small way) to support the organisation in achieving its goals and objectives”
