Up to 18 new jobs are being created for young people in North West Leicestershire as part of the Future Jobs Fund.
Announced in the March 2009 Budget, the £1billion fund is a government ‘recession busting’ initiative to support the creation of temporary job opportunities, particularly for long term unemployed young people aged 18-24 yrs. Many of the jobs are designed to be ‘green jobs’ or beneficial to the community, for example improving local tourism around Snibston and Bosworth and supporting the voluntary sector.
Dave Ahlquist, Chief executive of MRC Community Action (formerly NWLCVS) , who have pledged 3 new jobs said “the jobs have to be additional meaning they can’t replace existing jobs. We hope it will be a great launch pad for young people who are struggling to get into the employment market due to the recession. Working in our sector is very rewarding and we will be supporting the workers with training”. Other local employers who are pledging jobs through the fund are North West Leicestershire District Council and Snibston Discovery Museum. People interested in the jobs need to enquire via their local job centre.
